Lab Protocol

General Rules and Safety:

  • Only design students may use the lab and its equipment.
  • The borrower assumes full responsibility for equipment checked out. Equipment damaged while checked out will be repaired at the students’ expense.
  • The equipment is to be used only for the purpose of fulfilling design department assignments and may not be used for commercial applications, personal work or non-design classes.
  • University equipment may not be taken out of the state of Texas for any reason.
  • You have access to all equipment and are encouraged to use it. There are certain pieces of equipment that you need to be approved to use, such as the letterpress lab, jig saw and vacuum former. Proctors are more than willing to show you how to use them.
  • Please ask for a demonstration if you are unfamiliar with a piece of equipment.
  • 3 strike rule: overnight privileges are taken away for the rest of the semester.
  • If there is an accident and a piece of equipment is damaged, please tell the proctor immediately so it can be it fixed.
  • Begin clean up 20 min before the lab closes. You are responsible for cleaning up after yourself.
  • Do not force any equipment.
  • Food and drink may not be taken into the labs or placed on equipment.
  • All materials and supplies must be supplied by the student. All materials and supplies in the lab are for demonstration purposes, not for student use. (except for misc. supplies next to the spray booth and under the board shear).
